Colon Cleansing

Originally, Colon cleansing was practiced in ancient Greece. During the 1930’s and 20’s, colon cleansing gained popularity in the United States of America, but with new technology and discoveries, the whole concept behind the treatment lost ground and it was discarded. But in the recent years, by means of natural herbs and enzymes, Colon Cleansing has seen a rise in the no. of people opting for it. The question that lies in front of us now is that what exactly is Colon Cleansing and whether or not it is necessary. As for now, the research is still on so there is no concrete answer to the question but the following information might prove helpful regarding the subject.

Colon is the last part of your Large intestine attached to the rectum. All the waste materials that need to be excreted out of your body are stored in here. With time, the waste develops toxins which harm your body and can prove dangerous. Colon Cleansing is done to flush out these toxins which get stored in your Colon and are not excreted out. The two main Cleansing methods are generally used for the process. In one of the methods, you take in supplements through your mouth and some of them through your rectum, both of them aim at one thing and that is to force the Colon to drive out its contents. These supplements can easily be found at health stores, pharmacies, supermarkets etc.  These include laxatives, enemas, enzymes, powders etc.

The other method involves Colon irrigation also called as high colonics. It was a 100 years ago when the first modern machine for colon cleansing was invented. But today colon therapists sometimes called as colon hygienists conduct colon irrigation. Colon irrigation is similar to enema but unlike the latter, the former does not have the odors and the discomfort. Also, colon irrigation involves much more water than enema. You have to lie on a table while a gravity driven pump or machine will flush 20 gallons or approximately 75 litres of water through your colon. The therapist will massage your abdomen after every bout of water is passed into you colon, and will take out the fluids and waste through a separate tube.  This whole process is repeated and it might take an hour to complete the cleansing. A variety of water temperatures and pressures are used by the therapist for the cleansing.
